PEYTON & HELEN | Denver Engagement

“Something that reminds us of Texas”… This was Helen’s request for the location for their engagement session. Colorado and Texas… Huh. Well I have never been to Texas, except for quickly driving through Dallas. I emailed Helen. “How about open fields and a barn” Is that Texas-ish?”

Enter Helen and Peyton and the amazing old farm location. Which at the end of the day, probably looks and feels nothing like Texas, but hey, we still had an amazing session! In the cold blowing wind with runny noses, we rocked it.

Helen and Peyton, you guys are amazing. I cannot believe our paths have never crossed until now! Thank you so much for hanging out with me. I am in love with your session and the way you two love each other. Peyton the way you look at Helen, it is what every girl dreams of finding. And Helen, it’s a good thing you went in for that awkward hug, look what it lead to!  Thank you for being so amazing. I can’t wait to get to know you guys better and to share in your lives. You just might find me knocking on your door to hang out! Congratulations to you both and the journey you are about to embark on. It is quite the ride!

COLBIE + ANDY + US

I handed the man my credit card and anxiously awaiting what he was about to hand me. I had been waiting for this night for months now, and it was finally here. We walked over to the bar and ordered two glass of sparkling white wine. There is just something about adding the word ‘sparkling’ in front of wine that made us feel fancier than we should have. We sip slowly, only to realize we have a glass of cheap, gross, overly dry champagne. Oh well right, we still felt fancy, and that was what mattered at the moment.  We walked in and looked for our seats. Row S, seats 3 and 4. Only 17 rows from the stage…

The night had finally begun!! A girls night out spent jamming out to the music of Andy Grammer and Collie Caillat!!!

We spent the evening hollering “I Love You’s” sipping our sparkling white wine, and acting like 12 year old girls… It was awesome. If you have never seen Colbie in concert, GO!!! She is so stinking cute, sounds more amazing live than on record, and is just a stunning as you would imagine her to be in person! And those of you looking to keep your eye out for a new and upcoming artist, check out Andy. We are on a first name basis, cause when you get your picture taken with a ‘someone’ you just kinda feel like ya can do that. 🙂 And we did!!

As the concert came to a close we walked out feeling like we had just had the best night. We walked to the car talking about it all. “I love when she… She look so cute doing… It was so fun to hear… I cant believe….”  Little did we know Colbie would be standing right outside her tour bus, just hanging out! So we ever so cooly walked out, (ok we slightly ran a little) so we could say “Hi!” I mean come on, we MET COLBIE!!! She was so sweet, and real. She was about to hop on her bus when we asked her to sign our tickets and for a picture. And she said yes! So Lauren hoped in and had her signing while I snapped away, and then when it was my turn, she kindly said I have to go, but that one more picture would be okay.

Waking back to the car all Lauren could say was “Oh my gosh I freaking love her, I love Colbie!” Although Lauren did get her ticket signed by both Colbie and Andy, and I didn’t. 🙁 I told her I would hold theses pictures hostage until she traded me tickets. Cause thats what friends do right…?!? All and all… FREAKING awesome night!

Captured in full by the ever so handy IPhone. Here is our night relived….

LIFE

I took the entire weekend off. Can you believe that? The whole weekend! Although I second shoot for a friend on Friday to help cover her own wedding, that was the only photo related anything that I did this weekend. Saturday, we woke up late and I made a giant loaf of Monkey Bread and some orange juice. Delish! Have you ever had it? If not, you absolutely need to make it. It is so simple!! As the day started to roll by, I was still doing absolutely nothing with myself. Seriously nothing. No shower… I didn’t even get dressed. I just lounged around allllllll day. I relaxed, took a three hour nap, and read an entire book!!! (The second book within the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire. I am a huge nerd, but what can I say I love these kind of books!)

Which by the way the first movie comes out on March 23rd, 2012. So if any of you want to find me on my actual birthday (the following day), you better put on your favorite hoodie and head to the movie theater with us! Just sayin’… 🙂

Then dinner finally rolled around and we made a killer dinner. Lol. Egg sandwiches on bagels. Yep, for dinner. Then headed to bed. Talk about an exciting day in the life of Melissa Beck right?!?

Sunday was here and I thought the day needed to be slightly more productive than the previous day. We packed up and headed to church, and then decided to hit the Castle Rock outlets for the afternoon. Jake was the only one who didn’t end up getting anything new. Weird. Even Finley got a ton of pup stuff. But with bags in tow and a sleepy little Miss, we were home.

As we sat on the floor just hanging out after dinner, Lila was playing in the pantry… Slowly closing the door just to reopen it with a giant grin on her face as I said “Peak a Boo!” Something that tends to happen regularly in our house in the evening, except this time I grabbed the camera. Shirtless, sloppy pig tales, and ravioli remnants still left on her face from dinner, my sweet faced love ran around the kitchen. Which leads to what usually happens, me handing Jake the camera and saying will you “Please take some pictures of us?” A few funny moments later we had a handful of silly pictures of Lila and I, and then I tried to get Finley to join our picture party. All of you family photographers, I applaud you.  Even sitting in a controlled environment for this, we couldn’t get much!!

It went a little something like this:

  • “Finley come here. Sit. No stand up. Now SIT. Stay…. STAY!!!
  • Lila, come here. What do you have?!? Lila…. Can you come sit with Mommy?
  • Finley, STAAAAAAY.
  • Finley licking the mac and cheese box, remove old mac and cheese box, fix Lila’s sloppy hair…
  • Lila, look at Daddy. Lila look!!
  • FINLEY SIT DOWN!!!!
  • Whatever. Ugh. Lila come give Mommy some love.”

So here you have it in pictures.

I have learned a few things.

  1. Lila loves to dig in the recycling bin.
  2. Finley loves to lick everything in sight.
  3. I can not get a picture of the three of us all looking normal to save my life.

I have also learned it isn’t about looking normal in a picture. With a crazy dog and a shirtless sloppy child, it is about the memories we made. I would  much rather have these silly pictures where we are struggling to get it so much more than the perfect clean child and well behaved dog image. Then the clean perfect home without the shoes of mine in the back ground, an old mac and cheese box on the floor, and all the junk on the island. A pretty hair do, or perfectly painted toes… Because if I had all that, all I would have is one perfect picture to show for all of that.

No giggles, no memories, no crazy life that is ours… I choose to embrace the memories, the giggles, and the far from perfect family and home. Because at the end of the day, it’s what I have, and it’s mine. Sloppy and imperfect, but mine.

Maybe for a while I will stick to getting a picture of each of my girls one at a time. 🙂 (And Jake once tried to tell me puppies don’t smile…Proof they do.)
